How To Burn DVDs Guide

DVDs are common today and most people have replaced their CD players with DVD ones. Initially DVDs were only used for videos but are now also being used to store all kinds of data. DVDs have more storage capacity than CDs hence DVDs are preferred over them. To store data on a blank DVD there you need to have a DVD Writer attached to your computer.

Different people burn DVDs to store different kinds of data. Almost all kinds of computer related data could be stored on to DVDs. Backup of important files can done using DVDs. You can burn video and audio files onto DVDs. You must remember that making a copy of data that has copyrights is considered to be illegal. One can only make copies of data for personal use is fine. Below are chalked guidelines to burn data onto DVDs.

To burn DVDs using your computer you need to have a DVD writer and burning software. It is very essential to have a good hardware device to burn your DVDs. These hardware devices could either be either external or internal devices. Internal devices are more popular now, as most of the computers have a built in DVD RW (writer / burner). External DVD burners are small in size and are portable.

The next step is to classify the type of media you are writing on to the DVD. For instance, if you are want to burn a Video DVD you cannot format it as a data DVD. If you do so, then the DVD will not work on a DVD player. Hence, it is very important to burn a DVD in a specific format. You need to have a burning software like Nero to burn DVDs. The softwares have different kinds of burning process for different files.

Even Windows XP has inbuilt burning software. Just insert a blank DVD into the DVD drive and click on the DVD Drive icon on My Computer. On the left hand section you will have the “Create a disc” option. Click on it and follow the instructions of the Wizard. The wizard will guide you through the installation process.

Softwares like Nero should be available easily. Nero has very interactive user interface. This interface makes it very easy to burn DVDs. You can make various types of DVDs using such softwares. Audio (MP3), Video and Data are the most common formats. These softwares also have various burning speeds to optimize the burning. You could also have a DVD consisting only of camcorder images. Burning softwares are advancing with time and becoming more easy to use.
